FAQ Coffee Grinder

The grinder grinds poorly / less coffee is ground. Why?
Answer: Have you switched to a different type of bean? Different beans have varying consistency and density, which can result in more or less coffee being ground.

The container becomes static when grinding coffee. Is this normal?
Answer: The more roasted the coffee, the more coffee sticks to the container walls, which is perceived as static.

Why does coffee dust appear when I grind coffee?
This is caused by static electricity, which naturally occurs during grinding.

All coffee grinding generates some static electricity. This happens because the coffee particles rub against each other during grinding to prevent them from being ground too quickly. This reduces static slightly, but not completely.

If your grinder has a metal container for ground coffee, the coffee dust will stick to the walls and won’t fly around.

Tips to reduce flying coffee dust:

  • Add a few drops of water to the beans before grinding and stir with a teaspoon to distribute the water evenly.

  • After grinding, wait a minute or two before removing the container with the ground coffee. The static electricity will gradually dissipate.

  • Once the beans are ground and the container removed, you can lightly tap the container on the counter. Some of the coffee dust will fall into the ground coffee, reducing dust when opening the lid.
