What is the filter holder setting for?
The filter holder setting is used to adjust the water flow according to how much coffee you're brewing.
The Performance Thermo is equipped with adjustable flow control, which helps the coffee maker maintain the correct contact time between water and coffee regardless of the brewing amount.
Select the same setting as the amount of water you've filled in:
0.5 liters of water → select 0.5 on the filter holder.
0.75 liters of water → select 0.75 on the filter holder.
1.25 liters of water → select 1.25 on the filter holder.
This way, the coffee can achieve even extraction and the same great taste whether you're brewing a few cups or a full carafe.
The coffee maker isn't pumping water
If the coffee maker isn't pumping water, this is usually due to limescale deposits in the system.
Limescale can, over time, block the water flow through the pump.
Try the following:
Descale the coffee maker.
Run a full water container through after descaling.
Check whether the water flow returns.
If the problem persists after descaling, there may be air or limescale remaining in the pump system, and further descaling may be needed. A system coated in limescale is also a common reason why the coffee maker stops during brewing.
Why does the coffee maker make more noise than I'm used to?
The Performance Thermo uses advanced pump technology that can produce more noise than traditional coffee makers.
This is normal.
The coffee maker uses Wilfa's pump technology to:
Empty the system of water after each brew.
Ensure that every brew is made with fresh water.
Quickly reach the optimal brewing temperature.
Deliver an even temperature from the first to the last drop.
You may therefore hear the pump more clearly both at the beginning and end of brewing.
It looks like the thermal carafe is leaking
If there is water on the outside of the thermal carafe, it is usually not coming from inside the carafe.
Usually, this is water that has gotten between the parts of the carafe during washing or rinsing.
We recommend that you:
Let the carafe dry completely after cleaning.
Let the lid dry thoroughly before use.
Check whether the moisture disappears after the carafe has dried.
I'm having trouble getting the lid off the thermal carafe
The thermal carafe's lid has a locking function that needs to be used correctly to open and close smoothly.
To attach the lid:
Place the arrow on "Unlock".
Put the lid on.
Turn to "Lock".
To pour coffee:
First turn the lid until the arrow points to "Lock".
Then turn until the arrow points toward the spout symbol.
Pour the coffee.
Turning to "Lock" first helps create the correct vacuum in the carafe, which gives a better pour.
If the lid feels difficult to remove after the carafe has contained hot coffee, a light side-to-side wiggle can help break the vacuum.
How long does the thermal carafe keep coffee hot?
The thermal carafe is made of stainless steel and is designed to keep coffee hot for an extended period.
The carafe can keep coffee hot for up to approximately 3.5 hours, depending on the ambient temperature and how often the carafe is opened.
For the best heat retention, we recommend preheating the carafe with hot water before brewing.
What are the dimensions of the thermal carafe?
The thermal carafe has the following approximate dimensions:
Height: 18 cm
Width including handle and spout: 18 cm
Width at the bottom: 14 cm
Can I use the thermal carafe with other Wilfa coffee makers?
The thermal carafe can be used as a separate serving carafe, but it is not intended to be used directly in other Wilfa coffee makers.
This is because:
The thermal carafe has different dimensions than glass carafes.
Many coffee makers have a warming plate that is not designed for the thermal carafe.
You can, however, pour freshly brewed coffee from other coffee makers into the thermal carafe.
How often should I descale the coffee maker?
How often the coffee maker needs descaling depends on how much limescale is in your water.
We recommend that you:
Descale at least every three months.
Descale more often if you have hard water.
Clean the coffee maker regularly for the best taste and function.
Wilfa recommends:
Regular descaling is important to maintain the correct brewing temperature, water flow and pump lifespan. The warranty does not cover damage resulting from the coffee maker not being descaled according to the instructions.
The coffee isn't hot enough
If the coffee feels cooler than expected, a common cause is that the thermal carafe is cold when brewing begins.
For the best results:
Rinse the thermal carafe with hot water before brewing.
Empty the carafe.
Start brewing immediately after preheating.
A preheated thermal carafe helps the coffee maintain the correct temperature for longer.
The filter holder is overflowing
If the filter holder overflows, this may be because the flow through the filter is restricted.
Check the following:
That the flow control is set to the correct level.
That the drip-stop is open.
That the coffee isn't ground too finely.
That the valve in the filter holder is clean.
If the valve is clogged:
Set the flow control to 1.25.
Rinse the filter holder under running water.
Check that water can pass freely through the valve.
