Classic Coffee Maker

My coffee maker turns off after 40 minutes and I can’t turn it on again, is this correct?
Yes, that’s correct – it must be refilled with water in order to start again.

Why does my coffee maker start blinking?
When the button on the coffee maker starts blinking, it indicates that descaling and cleaning are needed. Please read the product manual for instructions.

Descale the coffee maker as follows:

Step 1. For descaling, we usually recommend brewing with vinegar and water. To reset the coffee maker, hold down the button for 10 seconds.

If the brewing does not start, it may be due to too much limescale in the water tank, in which case you need to clean it first as described below.

Step 2. Pour warm water (approx. 800 ml) and some vinegar (approx. 100 ml) into the water tank and let it sit for a while. This helps loosen limescale and other deposits. Then empty the coffee maker by turning it upside down over the sink.

After this, you can try descaling again according to Step 1. Brewing should now start so you can complete the descaling process.

Then, run one cycle with clean water (1 L) without coffee to make sure everything is clean and there is no vinegar taste left when you brew coffee again.

Wash all removable parts and wipe the water tank if needed.

The light comes on and then goes out again – how do I use the coffee maker again?
If the button on your coffee maker lights up and then immediately goes out, this means the coffee maker does not detect any water in the tank.

One reason this can happen on a CLASSIC coffee maker is that the float at the bottom of the water tank (a white plastic component under the metal lid) has gotten stuck. This usually happens if descaling has been neglected, and limescale or dirt has built up in the water tank, causing the problem.

To check if the float is stuck, fill the water tank with water and see if it floats up or remains stuck in the tube. If it is stuck, gently tap it with a thin screwdriver or teaspoon to see if it comes loose.

If this doesn’t help, you can try removing all detachable parts from the coffee maker (carafe, water arm, filter holder) and turning the machine upside down to see if the float comes loose that way.

Once the float has been released and floats properly, the coffee maker should work again. Before brewing coffee, the machine should be descaled and cleaned.
